Project Overview: VAT Reader Chrome Extension by P2P Space

The VAT Reader Chrome Extension is a tool developed by P2P Space to streamline and automate the extraction and verification of EU VAT numbers—primarily focusing on German (DE) and Swiss (CHE) formats. The extension allows users to extract VAT numbers directly from web pages, uploaded PDFs, or images using Optical Character Recognition (OCR), powered by Tesseract.js.

Designed with procurement and finance professionals in mind, the tool provides a tab-based, responsive UI for three key modes:

1. Read VAT (from current webpage),

2. Read PDF VAT (via upload),

3. Capture VAT (image OCR – coming soon).

It ensures VAT numbers are normalized into a consistent format for accuracy and validation. It uses PDF.js for PDF parsing and includes a centralized logic module for extracting VATs from varying formats.

The extension is fully open-source, developer-friendly, and built with modular JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Installation requires no advanced setup—simply load the extension in Chrome.

Future updates will include:

• Support for additional EU VAT formats (FR, GB, IT, etc.),

• Enhanced OCR capabilities,

• Smarter VAT extraction logic,

• UI/UX refinements.

This tool aligns with P2P Space’s broader mission: to automate and improve vendor data quality and procurement workflows using AI.

How Can you Use It?

1. Download Folder as ZIP Format.

2. Extract P2PSpaceVATReaderExtension-main folder from ZIP.

   
   

3. Open Google Chrome App from your Desktop or Laptop. (Smartphone and Tablet are not supporting!)

   
   

4. Click Manage Extensions

   

   
   

5. Choose Developer Mode and Click Load Unpacked button!

   

   
   

6. Upload Extract P2PSpaceVATReaderExtension-main folder.

   
   

7. Process Done!
